St. Patty's Day 2014
Colorado Springs always has fun St. Patrick's Day festivities. I've covered this for the past two years for the Gazette. The morning starts off with a 50K bike ride and includes some pretty hilly sections. I like to get some photos of the start of the race and then I zip over to Garden of the Gods to get some scenic individual shots of folks cruising through the park. As you'll see from the photos, most of the bikers like to dress up. The same goes for the runners who participate in the 5K run. I've shot photos of a lot of runs, but the 5K racers on St. Patty's Day are the craziest by far. It's always fun to see a huge field of green swarming at me as everyone takes off from the starting line. The race happens downtown and huge sections of the city are blocked off to traffic for the race and the parade that follows. The festivities come to a close with the parade. Over 100 entries stroll down the route including bands, floats, flags, leprechauns, firetrucks, and more. Oh, and obviously there are swarms of bagpipes filling the air. It is a great tradition and a lot of fun. It would probably be an even bigger event with even bigger crowds if it weren't for the fact that our cold Colorado winds seem to always come out in full force around mid-March.
